Simple is amazing! So says author Carri Hammett about her new book, “Scarves and Shawls For Yarn Lovers.” She’s absolutely right! Working with classic colors and the simplest of knitting stitches, you can create the most beautiful scarves and shawls you’ve ever seen.
One of these days I will begin a real tutorial all about yarns. Because besides knitting stitches, knitting is all about the yarn. Truly! Today’s market abounds in beautiful yarns; whether you shop in a local yarn shop (LYS) or Michaels or A.C. Moore, or online, it’s really hard making that yarn decision.
Purchasing yarn can be quite confusing; unless you have a specific pattern yarn to find, sometimes deciding on what yarn to knit a scarf with can get a little sticky! There ARE so many yarns to choose from; not to mention weight, type, grams, yards, . . . what exactly is right for my knitting project?
If you are confused about which yarn to use for your next endeavor, then Scarves and Shawls for Yarn Lovers is for you! I purchased this book last week and was so motivated to start a new scarf right away! Just looking at all of the 5-star reviews gets my attention every time.
Right from the get-go Carri Hammett explains what to look for when buying yarns. Her knitting patterns range from something for the absolute beginner to more advanced patterns. Overall, each pattern is simple and elegant. Exactly what you want when knitting scarves!
Did you know you can combine nylon yarn with “ladder” yarn for a stunning look in a scarf? You can! How about a shiny ribbon yarn coupled with a metallic-blend eyelash yarn for a show-stopper to wear or to give? Or what about combining a ribbon yarn with a shiny fur and knitting it long and skinny! You won’t believe the look!
There are twenty beautiful scarf and shawl patterns here, and every one is very knit-able! Believe it or not, there are over 70 yarns to explore in this book! If you’ve never knitted with ribbon, boucle, super bulky, multi-fiber or smooth, now’s your chance!
Before you know it, you can be knitting “Sophisticated Glitz”, “Happy Endings”, “Mashed Potatoes”, “Decadence”, and “Drop-Dead Gorgeous”! Yes, these are all scarf and shawl knitting patterns, along with many others.
As a yarn shop owner herself, Carri knows what she’s talking about. Best of all, Scarves and Shawls for Yarn Lovers is a knitting book for every knitter! Don’t you just love it?!
As always, take your knitting to heart!
